1. I had “taco raisu” tonight. It was as I expected. If you have a craving for this dish, I offer the following original recipe for a reasonable facsimile:

  • Go to your closest Taco Bell and order a Taco Supreme
  • Take it home and prepare a plate of cooked white rice
  • Scrape the fillings out of the Taco Supreme and onto the bed of rice
  • Throw the taco shell away
  • Add salsa and hot sauce to taste
  • Enjoy

2. I got “carded” when I went to Family Mart to buy a couple of beers tonight! The clerk told me there are no exceptions, regardless of your apparent age. You have to produce a driver’s license or passport, i.e. something that provides proof of age and shows your date of birth. I didn’t realize their DUI rules even apply to gaijin pedestrians!

Onoyama Park hasn’t opened for the matsuri yet so I rode all the way to Jusco to try the taco raisu. The trains in both directions were packed and I even let several go by because they were too full. Tomorrow’s the official start of the festivities and I’d guess the trains will be even busier. Gonna watch a fireworks show on Monday to close the holiday.
