Man, this Japanese keyboard has been driving me crazy with its strange layout. I couldn’t find the “delete” key these past several days so I’ve been moving the cursor past the stuff I want to strike out and using the “back space” key instead. Well, I finally found the delete key… it’s located above the “num lock” key on the numeric keypad.

Photo ops so far have been rather scarce. Construction areas aren’t very glamorous and apartment zones all tend to look alike. I’ll try to get some of the festivities at Onoyama Park and anything else aside from the matsuri parade. I reserve my video camera for the parade so I can capture both sound and movement and the digital camera takes a back seat. Oh, I did get some good shots at Naha Kuko yesterday. There were rain squalls off-shore and they helped clear the air so I got the best view I’ve ever had of the Kerama islands and I shot several photos of them.

The weather’s shaping up to be another mushiatsui day. I noticed the planes are flying a reverse approach to the airport and coming in past Naha on the west coast instead of the normal approach past Itoman on the east coast. And they’re landing in the opposite direction too. So maybe the winds have changed like our “Kona winds” and that explains the super humidity.

In any event, I plan to go buy a 3-day pass on the monorail this morning. It gets cheaper the more days you purchase and you can’t beat it for convenience and comfort. And true to Japanese standards, the trains run exactly on schedule. I caught the monorail at Kencho-mae station the other day and the posted schedule said it’d be there at 10:12. Well the train came into view, I looked at my wristwatch, and darn if it wasn’t precisely 10:12!

Gonna go get breakfast now (it’s included in the price of my room) and get fortified to face another day. I’ll probably make a quick trip to Family Mart to forage for some Orion beer. Besides using it to keep hydrated, I can also use the sedating effect to try and help me adapt to the 19 hours time differential here. My body’s still on Hawaii time and it’s really not much fun going to bed at 8:00 and waking up at 3:00 in the morning.
