Okinawan Festival in Hawaii

Hanayakara in Hawaii, originally uploaded by Internet-Okinawa.com.

i-O photographer, Myron Akana, captured some scenes from this year’s 25th Okinawan Festival held in Waikiki, Hawaii. To see his stunning photos of Hanayakara and Ryusei Daiko, visit the internet-okinawa Flickr photo gallery and be sure to leave us a comment to say “haisai!”

I’ve also created a video entry of the highlights that I captured at the festival. Click the play button to watch. Enjoy!

    Haisai,
In the video you’ve posted about Okinawa Festivals in Hawaii, I’ve noticed several traditional dances and the lion dance is about the same as the Chinese’s. Are the customs related to Chinese traditions?

To Mr.XYZ, the lion, Shi-Sa is borrowed from Chinese culture though it has it’s own unique story in Okinawan mythology.

To the webmaster: Love this blog! Keep it up! Will hopefully be moving to Okinawa next year and can’t get enough of this amazing place!
