Free Music at mF247

I bet the title of this post caught your attention. ;) A music download site from Japan called mF247 has samples of full (as opposed to you know, a 30-second cut) songs that you can download and keep for-eh-var. And what’s even more insane is that it’s all totally legal! The artists featured on the site want you to sample their music and support them by purchasing an album or single if you like their stuff. Also, if you’re like me and spend the majority of the time on your Mac/PC rather than tuning in to a radio station, what better way to hear new music than this? Have your hand on your mouse/trackpad? Then get ready to click on this link because it’ll take you to mF247’s “Okinawa” section. Ah, how much more convenient can they make it for us? You still here? What are you, nuts? Afuso Ryu Gensei Kai ∼ Hawaii Shibu ∼ will be holding a performance entitled “Uta Sanshin Live - Di! Ashibana” at the McKinley High School (Honolulu, Hawaii) Auditorium on Sunday, June 25, 2006. Marukai Hawaii’s Okinawa Fair from May 16-21

Marukai Wholesale Mart will be having an Okinawa Fair from May 16th to the 21st (it’s not mentioned on their site yet). Besides the usual fare of delicious foods—including a sale of Kumejima’s Kumesen awamori (samples too!) and Orion Beer—customers of the members-only store will also be able to purchase Okinawa crafts, cookbooks, and music CDs (wha?!). I promise to have a detailed report in a followup entry. I’m thinking of scanning the ad and posting it on the web but I’ll wait to see if it shows up on Marukai Hawaii’s website.

[Updated 06.05.22] So I broke my promise about the “detailed report”. Sorry. I’ll try again next year. :(

Festivals That’ll Rock in 2006

August is the month where rock festivals show up all over Japan. If you’re lucky enough to be there during that month, it’ll be a great chance to check out these artists from Okinawa. The ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2006 in Ibaraki Prefecture (my cousin Shoko lives there!), takes place from August 4th to the 6th and will feature Cocco who will be performing on the 5th.

The RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL 2006 in EZO (Hokkaido), will feature punk rock band MONGOL800 and J-pop band HY. This festival will take place on August 18th and 19th. [Via bounce.com.]

Lineups for both festivals are still ongoing so I’ll have an updated post as the month draws closer.
