As promised, here’s a present from Internet-Okinawa.com and Karakui.com to celebrate Sanshin no Hi (3/4).

RIK has a really cool kabegami (wallpaper) up on their site to celebrate Sanba no Hi (3/8) and the month of March. Today’s Sanshin no Hi (3/4) and we’ll be celebrating this special day here at Internet-Okinawa.com with a selection of music from Okinawan artists that I’m sure you’ll be happy to add to your collection. Stand by.
There’s an interesting website for uta-sanshin enthusiasts called e-kunkunshi. The site is only available in Japanese but navigating through it should be a snap for sanshin players who can at the very least recognize the Japanese-language song titles. They even have a sample of “Asadoya Yunta” (note that it’s IKEDA Suguru’s rendition of the song) available with the kunkunshi in pdf file format (Mac OS X users can view the file in Preview) and two mp3s, one a slowed-down version and the other a regular speed version of the song. I think it’s pretty cool that they also include (as an option) an mp3 of each song along with its kunkunshi and the price (yes, there’s no way you thought this was a free service, right?) is around ¥300 for the kunkunshi and another ¥200 for the mp3. The site totally blows with Safari, Camino, and Firefox. Shame. Opera seems to display the site correctly though. Go figure.
