My Top J-Pop Album Pick for 2005

My top pick for J-Pop album of 2005 is HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR’s (HandMC or Haikara) debut album “G∞ver”. The group is just an album into their career (hopefully a long one) but they’ve managed — with a little bit of luck perhaps — to release several popular singles. Although not on the same magnitude as the band that preceded them, they have a successful musical formula that’s like a punk rock version of globe’s music (Maakii = KEIKO [although I think her voice is similar to that of ELT’s MOCHIDA Kaori, albeit stronger] & Yuusuke = Marc Panther). Haikara’s upcoming single, “Ichirin no Hana” (opening theme song for the popular anime “BLEACH”), is set to be released on the 11th of this month.
