56th Annual Kouhaku Utagassen Lineup

Here’s the lineup for this year’s 56th Annual Kouhaku Uta Gassen (Red & White Song Festival). As is my tradition, I also have a link up to each artist’s official website. Cool, yeah? :P And if I’m up to it, I may also add the genre of each artist in an update to this post. I may even upload a checklist so you’ll be able to track each artist as they appear on the show. We’ll see.

The number of Kouhaku appearances for each artist is in (). Uchinanchu artists are in bold.

AMURO Namie. MAX. DA PUMP. They’re all gone. After disbanding, none of the ex-members of SPEED have been able to make it this far as solo artists. Perhaps most surprising is not seeing ORANGE RANGE and HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR — both groups had a successful 2005 but probably have higher priority commitments on that day.

Hi! I live in california and recently purchased NHK to watch kouhaka utagassen this year. I have a problem! My cable gide won’t let me know when it starts! If you know what time it starts western-pacific time i would be your friend forever! Great thanks in advance!

Hi Anna! You’re probably receiving the NHK feed from TV Japan (if you’re not, let me know) and they’ll be broadcasting the Kouhaku twice on Saturday, December 31, 2005. In Hawaii the first airing is at 3:30 am to 8:00 am and the repeat is from 4:00 pm to 8:45 pm. You can check out TV Japan’s progam guide here. I think you guys in California are two hours ahead of us.

Well the 5:30 am airing just finished in California and the next one I believe is 6:00 pm.
